wind/rain damage?

How is everyone? The electricity at work went out at 9am, and never came back on - the boss finally gave up and let me go home at 2:30 today. Home had electricity, but some serious roof damage from wind. If my honey had not been working from home today we wouldn't have been able to start emergency repairs, and the roofer guy said it's likely our living room ceiling would have collapsed by then.
On my short drive from work to hom (Carmichael) I saw 2 trees uprooted in front of houses - wasn't able to make out how much damage, but at least one had busted up the sidewalk there.
And more rain expected tomorrow - hope all my roof leaks are well patched! We need a completely new one, but that's the owner/property managers decision. *sigh*

Part of our fence blew down, but it's an easy fix. We lost a couple of shingles. Compared to folks who had trees fall on their houses or cars, we got off pretty mildly.

Driving in to work yesterday was "exciting"...not.

I lost power at home, but it was back up when I got off late in the evening.

I've got candles and flashlights and camping gear at home, though, so it wouldn't have been a disaster if it hadn't come back up right away.

I wouldn't have been able to check email, though.

We lost a good portion of two back fences, one section of which was fixed after a big storm just a few years ago. One of our gates actually blew off its hinges, and a storage rack with a bunch of gardening supplies including our stockpile of clay pots blew over, smashing all of the pots in a gazillion pieces. But thankfully, that was the most of the damage. House and both huge mulberry trees are all solid. We only lost power for a short time in the early morning hours. We had minor flooding of our garage during the biggest of the downpours yesterday afternoon.

Our most major damage was my husband's "garage" tent in our driveway, under which he parks his restored '71 VW Westy because it's too tall to fit in our real garage. We were up at about 4am to check on things and sure enough, it had been ripped to shreds, one of its six legs somehow ended up on our roof (WTF?!), a center beam had collapsed on the vehicle, causing another part to slam into the back side panel causing a minor dent and a gash in the paint. We spent about 20 minutes or so in the midst of the storm in the early morning hours deconstructing that damned thing. What a pain in the ass! Of course, hindsight is 20/20...should've parked Oscar out on the street and away from that cheesy shelter, but then who knows what would have happened (downed tree?).

Hope everyone faired relatively well out there. That was one doozy of a storm!

we just finally got our power back on in central davis - most of the residential area just north of town lost power for nearly 48 hours... we have lots of camping gear, so it was not a major inconvenience, but it was still a bit of a pita
drove around town yesterday to get some ice and food - saw quite a few downed branches, a couple trees snapped mid-trunk, uprooted, etc - quite the winds!!
hope no one was hurt, past couple days without power meant no news, internet, etc.

more rain most of the day yesterday. our living room smells strongly of wet plaster, but I can't tell if the new, wonderfully attractive brownish stains on our ceilings have grown, or just refuse to dry and fade.
I'm NOT looking forward to the possibility of mold.
