Hello and good morning,
In 2001 I decided I couldnt live in the Bay area any more and moved to Arizona...... there were several reason why this move made sense to me at the time (separation and divorce makes people do weird things). I have had many wonderful experiences living in AZ but I am ready to move back to the best place on earth (Northern CA) I am looking at Hayward Sacramento, and Sonoma County (where I am from). I am looking for housing and a job in Sacramento. The condo has to be a in an area that I feel safe walking my way to friendly dog at night near Sac State (no more than 8 miles or so), preferably close to a dog park and close to a freeway that will get me to 80. I also need to be close to a belly dance studio. I know nothing about the neighborhoods I am finding condos in (in my price range) but do have a general idea of where to stay away from thanks to a friend. I also know that like Phoenix and Mesa you can have a side of the street that is a nice area and the other side can be not so nice Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Relocation advice
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 12:26 PMHot Pot bellydance fusion studio owned by Amy Sigil is in Midtown Sacramento at 17th and Kst. See Unmata.com or our Unmata tribe for more info on that.
There are several other dance studios in the Greater Sacramento area including Jodettes Egyptian studio on 21st and Kst (also downtwon) and Fatimias in East/North area of Fair Oaks/Orangevale. Many qualified caberet dancers teach privately in Sacramento or at Gyms like California Family Fittness and Pipeworks. I do not know of any dance studios closer to Sac State than ours. There are tons of rentals Downtown and Midtown. It's a grid of letters and numbers just west of Sac State, and you can walk anywhere or take public transit easy in that area.
If you choose to live in the downtwon/midtown area, where many Hot Pot bellydancers walk everywhere at all hours, you would be less than 8miles from sac state and in the middle of the freeway interchanges (highway 50 and 80 , I-5 and highway 99). I live 7 miles from my studio, but four miles from Sac State by freeway, on the eastern edge of the city of Sacramento near Watt ave and highway 50. The areas in Sacramento that surrond Sac State are La Riveria and American River dr. And Howe Ave and Highway 50 (just west of Watt ave) are the exits to Sac State. Sorry if you already know all that.

Re: Relocation advice
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 12:45 PMThe only sticking point is dog parks--I don't think there are any dog parks at all in the central city. Here is a list of Sacramento dog parks:
www.cityofsacramento.org/parks...k1.htm
I assume that you're looking for a condo, rather than a house or an apartment. The good news is that there are a lot of condos and attached townhomes going up or recently built in the central city, and buyer response has been kind of tepid, so hopefully prices will come down somewhat in the near future. Midtown isn't real close to Sac State (about three or four miles) but bus and light rail service there from midtown is far easier than driving and takes about as long.
If you have survived Arizona summers, you will find Sacramento's summers comfortable and mild by comparison, unlike those who come directly from the Bay Area and burst into flame when stepping outdoors in July or August. -

Re: Relocation advice
Mon, December 31, 2007 - 11:32 AMkat, i have a friend that has her condo for sale in sacramento . it is a 2 bed 1 bath condo with fireplace she redid a lot of it when she bought it so it is totally in move in condition. About the hood. It is about a mile from sac state it is a gated community woodside east. It is about 5 miles to down town and there are a ton of belly dance studios there. there is a dog park 2-3 miles away. safe neighborhood with security patrols in the complex. someone mentioned mckinley park it is not walking distance but not that far either . The on ramp for business 80 is 2-3 miles away and the on ramp to 50 is about 3 miles in the other direction. It is a really nice place. There are 4 pools and a gym bike rental laundry facilities on site and there is room for a stackable in the apt.
she is selling the place b/c she got an opportunity to purchase a home that has been in the family .
PM me if you want her number and her realtor info.
good luck in your search for a home
