Hi Spanker ;-) Have you heard of WORLD Studio (Amy Sigil/Unmata)? We are moving the studio from Carmichael to 16th and K in midtown the first week of August. We'd love to have ya and any of the rest of you women (and/or men) who'd like to learn this gratifying form of dance. Check out our website at www.unmata.com and feel free to call us or email for more info....

Amy is moving into the artist lofts at 16th and K, after getting resettled she may rent additional space in which to teach. UNMATA will be dancing Second Saturday, so stay tuned for more ;-). Amy is a fantastic teacher. Feel free to join the UNMATA tribe as well--I'll be keeping all the updates on there.

UNMATA will also host our 4th annual Blood Moon extravaganza in October and this year we will have renowned dancers Domba!, Devadasi, Sacred Ground, and others t.b.a. here to party down Holloween weekend.

        Hoping to meet you soon!

hey darling, We just set up our jewelry for a fun all day class up in Auburn last weekend, we found out about it via Ottoman Traders guild. I know Julia from the group teachs over in citrus heights area. But that might be a bit to suburb for you. I can ask around more. I know that a few times a week California Family fitness has bellydance classes, but i was not my speed at all.

I will check about and see what i can dig up. HUGSSSS

One of the women who teaches at CA Family fitness owns Red Tent Belly Dance- and may offer classes outside of the gym.

My experience with belly dance in the Sac area is that there is a regime change a-coming. My understanding is that some of the newer troupes have a more cooperative and inclusive vibe than the old-school dancers.

I think you are right about that. Unmata works alongside lots of other dancers in the area. We are excited about collaborating with other great troupes (such at Sacred Ground) on future projects. There isn't a good reason *not* to work as a community, so hopefully the local bellydancers will become a network rather than an overly competitive group of catty gossipers. I think Sacramento is going to experience the new face of fusion belly dance...

Btw... Amy of Red Tent is a fab person... definitely check her out if you have a CA Fam Fitness membership.

Yes- Amy is great! An excellent teacher!! she makes everyone feel welcome and gives great suggestions to help me figure out *how* to do some of those moves.

I'm actually taking her classes at CFF- trying to take 2 a week as my travel schedule permits. I've only been dancing for a few months- but my sis is in Ultra Gypsy in the Bay Area and I've learned a lot about the community through her.
I'm hoping to be good enough to perform at some point- but for now, I'll settle for the improved posture, increased self-confidence, better body image and sweet dance moves!

I'll be looking for Unmata events and would love to come see you dance!!

Yay! Can't wait to meet you. Hopefully you'll make it to Blood Moon in October....

I love that you've had a positive dance experience so far. I can't imagine my life without it.
